About Cantonese Debating Team
The Cantonese Debating Team of the University of Macau was established in 1982, the following year after the establishment of the University of Macau. It is the earliest organization of the University of Macau. The spirit of Cantonese Debating Team passes to onto the next generation through inviting our alumni as tutors and joining different debating competitions.
For a long time, our team has participated in and held many debates, such as various debate competitions and workshops in Macao and Hong Kong. In recent years, due to the COVID-19, our team has been committed to opening up online debates, and is the mainstay of Cantonese debate culture.
If you are eloquent with diligent logical thinking and want to show your talent on the stage, please don’t hesitate to join us and get together with our love of debate! Joining Cantonese Debating Team must make you a difference in your university life!

Our team usually has a weekly regular training on Thursday 8:30 pm, which is led by our alumni. We also invites some professors in UM and well-known debaters from overseas to give us lectures.
In order to give more chances for our new members to gain more competition experience, our team holds training camp and mock debating contest for new members annually. It also enhances the spirit of understanding and cooperation between our senior and new team members.
Eligibility and Application
Target：All students from University of Macau
Requirements：Speaking fluent Cantonese, having debate enthusiasm, team spirit and responsible attitude.
Process：An interview and need to attend the weekly trainings.
